June/July 2007 Marketplace Minutes Agus Hartadi was born into a large Muslim family with four brothers and three sisters in the small village of Ponorogo, which is in the eastern part of Java, the most populated island in Indonesia. The Javanese culture has been heavily influenced by Hinduism, Buddhism and in later years Islam; Indonesia is now the largest Islamic country in the world! |

March/April 2007 Marketplace Minutes Thirty years ago, Ivan Brown, a police constable of five years and a husband of only six months, was attacked while in the line of duty by a machete wielder. As a result of the attack, both of his arms were chopped off, and he sustained many skull-deep gashes to his head. The attacker shot Ivan with his own firearm and fled the scene, believing Ivan to be dead. |

January 2007 Marketplace Minutes Proverbs 22:9 states, “A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.” What does it look like to share food with the poor and how is a generous man blessed? In 2004, Jim Johnston of Belfast, Northern Ireland (pictured left) and CBMC International Chairman, visited Tirana, Albania and was introduced to numerous women and children in the Village of Shkoza. As a result of ethnic cleansing, these people fled from Northern Albania with absolutely nothing. Survival for these women and children was slim due to the economy in Albania, which is still one of the poorest countries in Europe. |
